Looking Ahead to 2026: What’s on in the Cotswolds This Winter & Spring
January 6, 2026

2026 has arrived, and as we ease into a new year, the Cotswolds begins its gradual shift towards lighter evenings, garden openings, and the earliest hints of spring. January may feel cold and still, but the calendar is already filling up with all kinds of experiences that draw visitors back to our villages, market towns and landscapes. If you want to start your year off with a Cotswolds adventure, here are the events you need to know.

January: Cocklebarrow Races & Burns Night at Highgrove

The year starts with the Cocklebarrow Races on Sunday 25January 2026, one of the most popular point-to-point meets in the Cotswolds. Expect a lively atmosphere, local food, children’s activities, and a full race card near Northleach.

For something a little more luxury, Highgrove hosts its Burns Night celebration on Saturday, 24 January 2026, offering a traditional evening inside the grounds of the private residence.

January also brings theatre to Cirencester, with Men Behaving Badly: The Play running at the Barn Theatre from 30 January to 7 March 2026.

February: Snowdrops, Candlemas and Theatre

February is a quieter travel month, but one of the most atmospheric. At Painswick Rococo Garden, the snowdrop season takes over from late January through late February, transforming the landscape with one of the most established displays in the country.

On 2 February 2026, Gloucester Cathedral marks Candlemas with its annual service of music and candlelight.

March: Cheltenham Festival & Cotswold Crafts

March brings the biggest week in the Cotswold calendar. The Cheltenham Festival takes place from 10–13 March 2026, culminating in Gold Cup Day. Accommodation typically books well in advance, and towns across the region take on a lively atmosphere.

For something more low-key, the Cotswold Crafts Market continues every Saturday in the Corn Hall, Cirencester, showcasing independent makers, ceramics, textiles and homeware.

April: Jazz, History and Bluebell Season

Spring becomes unmistakable in April. The Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend runs from 17–19 April 2026, offering talks, tours and exhibitions exploring the region’s past.

At the end of the month, Cheltenham Jazz Festival returns from 29 April to 4 May 2026, bringing headline names, intimate concerts and outdoor performances.

April also marks the start of bluebell season. Some of the best spots to see them include Westonbirt Arboretum, Miserden Woods, Lineover Wood near Cheltenham and Foxholes Nature Reserve near Kingham. Peak viewing usually falls between mid-April and early May.
