Supper clubs, an enchanting blend of dining and socialising, have their roots in mid-20th-century America. Conceived initially as exclusive, often clandestine gatherings, they offered an intimate space where guests could enjoy a gourmet meal in a convivial, relaxed setting. Typically hosted in private homes, undisclosed venues, or one-of-a-kind spaces, supper clubs celebrate a sense of community and shared experience.
With communal tables and interactive dining, they foster connections between guests, offering a refreshing alternative to the traditional restaurant scene. Menus are often prix fixe, crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, but the true allure lies in the spontaneity, charm, and the culinary adventure each supper club promises.
In recent years, these experiences have undergone a renaissance, particularly in the Cotswolds, where exceptional supper clubs are abundant. Here at Arlington & Row, we have selected four that we are particularly keen to experience:
Cheltenham’s Secret Supper Club
An intimate gathering set in a stylish home kitchen, Cheltenham’s Secret Supper Club offers a four-course feast for just 12 guests. Created by Helen, an experienced home cook with credentials catering for brands such as Aspinal of London and Knight Frank, the evening begins with canapés before moving into three elegant courses of home-cooked fare. Guests arrive via a tree-lined avenue before stepping inside for a memorable night of food and conversation.
